In January of 1961 a group of 27 men from Regina and surrounding district petitioned for a charter with the Society for Preservation and Encouragement of BarberShop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA), now known as the Barbershop Harmony Society. The charter was granted on February 7 of that year, and the Wheatland Chorus was born.
The chorus flourished and grew until, on our 25th anniversary in 1986, we had grown to 71 members. At one time, we had nearly 100 men on the risers.
We changed our name to the Golden Harvest Chorus in 1994, and then to the Living Skies Chorus in 2005.
In 2025, we discontinued our association with the Barbershop Harmony Society. We are looking at diversifying our sound to include other acapella music to attract a younger audience, while still keeping some traditional barbershop style 4-part harmony music.
We survived covid with some out-of-the-box thinking by our director, Al. We turned to “carbershop” singing! We were all equipped with wireless mikes connected to a central amp where Al could direct us through the window of a local high school and play back our sound via fm radio. We remained “physically distanced” in our vehicles, while refusing to be “socially distanced”!
Our men's chorus is currently in the neighborhood of 30 active members and always looking to expand. We currently have 2 active members who were recruited by their dads who are also still active in the chorus. We are always happy to have younger members join our group.
We have also grown to include a women’s acapella chorus. This group is new in 2025. Like the men, we enjoy singing 4 part acapella harmony, and are looking for women to join us.
Come on out and try us on for size!
